1. Gartner Released Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform-as-a-Service
On January 7, 2014, Gartner released its Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application PaaS. Three out of 19 systems on the list are based on the open-source version of the Cloud Foundry PaaS.
2. CenturyLink Cloud Supports the BOSH Tool Chain for Cloud Foundry Deployments
CenturyLink Cloud now supports the BOSH tool chain, making it easier to deploy Cloud Foundry. This is the first step in CenturyLink’s PaaS roadmap for 2014; the team is also working on integrating AppFog’s service with Iron Foundry.
3. January’s Cloud Foundry Advisory Board Meeting
Another Cloud Foundry Advisory Board Meeting took place on Jan 29. The discussion covered a wide range of subjects, including incubator proposals, community services, BOSH stemcells, the Diego project, and much more. This blog post provides a detailed account of the call.
4. Docker Received $15M in Series B Funding
Docker announced that it had received $15M in Series B funding for its open-source container orchestration technology. The money will be invested in releasing the production-ready Docker 1.0, adding support for additional platforms, enabling more isolation, storage, networking, and orchestration capabilities, as well as expanding the development team, launching hosted services, adding commercial support, etc.
5. Microsoft’s Windows Azure Updates
Microsoft has released a set of Windows Azure enhancements, including staged publishing to Windows Azure Web Sites, Mobile Services support for the SenchaTouch cross-platform framework, PCI DSS compliance, expanded ISO certification, general availability of Windows Azure Hyper-V Recovery Manager, etc.
6. OpenShift Origin Now Supports CentOS
Red Hat announced that OpenShift Origin, which previously supported only RHEL and Fedora, can now work on CentOS 6.5.
7. CloudMunch Expanded Their DevOps Platform to Windows Azure
After adding support for Cloud Foundry in November, CloudMunch integrated their platform with Windows Azure.
8. Apprenda 5.0: Support for Java and Oracle
Apprenda announced the new release of their .NET-based PaaS. Version 5.0 added Java to cover a larger number of enterprise applications and provided native support for Oracle.
9. Jelastic PaaS Integrates with the SendGrid E-mail Infrastructure
Platform-as-Infrastructure company Jelastic partnered with SendGrid, a cloud based e-mail infrastructure provider. This alliance will provide developers with access to flexible APIs for e-mail delivery, scalability, and real-time analytics.
10. Mendix Raised $25 Million in Funding
Boston-based Mendix cloud app platform received $25M in Series B funding. This investment will fuel the company’s global expansion, as well as Mendix 5 product development.
