Overcoming the Challenges of IoT with Predix and Embedded Solutions
Gartner estimates that 20.8 billion connected devices will be in use worldwide by 2020. Two recent Predix meetups in Milwaukee and Dallas focused on the challenges the IoT brings along and how relying on a platform like Predix can help to solve them. Speakers also outlined the use of embedded solutions when building industrial IoT apps.
Theory and practice to address the issues
In his session, Samrat Saha of BlueCity talked about the challenges of IoT (e.g., sensor and cloud-hosted persistence), how to overcome them, and how Predix was of a great help when building the BlueCity’s solution.

Embedded solutions for IoT
In his session, Mark Szewczul of Silicon Labs provided an overview of the company’s devices for Industrial Internet with a focus on:
- 8- and 32-bit microcontroller units (MCU)
- wireless technologies
- sensor technologies
He also touched upon energy usage and scalability.
